13th June 2018

in Amsterdam, Netherlands

Join us for a CSS Day pre-event! And maybe even give a presentation yourself?

The evening before CSS Day we're organising an event in the center of Amsterdam, hosted by Werkspot. Our first talk of the evening will be 'The Breakthrough of Native Browser APIs' by Christian "Schepp" Schaefer, and we also have 2 extra slots for anyone interested in giving a presentation!

Want to give a presentation?

You have something you want to present? Maybe a cool library you created? Maybe you want to share your knowledge on new CSS selectors? Or how you see the future of the web? Everything goes! Just fill out our Call for Papers, and we'll pick the two that we think is the most interesting one. We have an anonymized submission process, so we only look at your idea.

Event Schedule:

  • 19:00 Introduction by the organisers
  • 19:15 Christian Schaefer
  • 19:45 you?

Christian "Schepp" Schaefer — The Breakthrough of Native Browser APIs

In this talk, Christian will give you an overview on how far native browser APIs have matured, thus freeing our sites from the grip of jQuery, lodash and other helper libraries. We will look at modern DOM traversal and manipulation possibilities, at event delegation, at native smooth scrolling, at image and font lazy loading, and also at working more elegantly with arrays and objects in JavaScript.

About Christian

Christian "Schepp" Schaefer lives in Düsseldorf and works as a freelance frontend developer with focus on performance. He also co-founded a German weekly podcast on web development named Working Draft and runs a local meetup group.

• We are working hard to improve the diversity at our meetups. One way we do this is by saving spots for people in underrepresented groups. If you are on the waitlist and believe you are part of an underrepresented group, let one of our organisers know and you will either change your waitlist status (to 'Yes') or bump you up to the top of the waitlist.

• Smile! We are photographing this event. Let us know if you do not wish to have your pictures posted on this site or on social media.

• Note that by attending any of our events, you are agreeing to our code of conduct.
